KOLKATA: China’s near $9-billion telecom equipment maker, ZTE, one of the biggest players in the global 3G space, is poised to shore up its R&D budget in its Indian subsidiary, ZTE India.
The company is expected to set aside more than a billion dollars for global R&D in calendar 2010, of which at least 10% (read: $100 million) is likely to flow into India.
Bulk of the funds are expected to come to ZTE India’s engineering centre in Bangalore. “A significant slice of ZTE’s global R&D budget, at least 10%, is likely to come to India. The funds are expected to come to ZTE’s Value Added Services (VAS) Software Development Centre in Bangalore, which is integrated with ZTE’s global R&D network,” said a senior executive with direct knowledge of the matter.
